Profile: Site Manager, Dave Amey

As the work by main Contractor Rose Builders Ltd draws to a celebratory conclusion, we wish to record our thanks publicly to Rose's Site Manager, Dave Amey - who has been in charge of the Project work from the first working day.

Dave, who has worked for Mr Rose for eight years, is a highly-regarded Project Manager, and has had to call on a wide range of his skills over the last six months. The role of Site Manager includes ensuring the safety of the site and his working colleagues; managing the staff and all the sub-contractors; liaising with Architects, the Structural Engineer, consultants and us as the Client; on his decision, goods are ordered to arrive on site on time, and he has had to develop a detailed working knowledge of the plans to ensure he can answer all the technical questions posed to him, and deal with issues which have arisen.

There have been several of those, including the discovery of wells and drainage problems, in addition to the complexity of renovating a building which is 139 years old. He tells us that the only truly straight lines and square corners in the building are the ones that have just been built!

Dave has only had 5 days' holiday during the contract, and has even been known to come in on a Sunday, with the family dog Toby, to show the Project Board around the site! His long-suffering wife Coral and son Lewis will enjoy a bit more of his company from now on, especially watching and playing football (he's an ardent fan of Huddersfield Town FC) - until, that is, Mr Rose puts him in the hot seat of another complicated project!

Thank you, Dave, and all your team, for your work and friendship, from all the Project Board:
