This year's Plant Sale, held
in blazing sunshine on Saturday 10th May, made over £730 profit! That's a
record for the event, and an enormous help towards our fundraising target.
 |
Organisers Andy and Di
Ayton again prevailed upon their friendly Nursery Manager, who
provided lots of high-quality bedding plants on a sale-or-return
basis. Here
we see lots of green stuff changing hands - always a good sight!
That's Ivy doing the selling, and Lesley doing the buying! |
 |
Here
we see Tricia and Alan selling yet another trayful of plants - many
in flower, all of them strong and reasonably priced. Huw Edwards,
Chairman of the Myland Parish Halls Modernisation Project Board,
says "people may have been happy to pay a little more, but in recent
years we've held a reputation for good quality and good value" |
 |
Revd
Ray Gibbs, Priest-in-Charge of the Parish of Myland, was one of many
willing volunteers manning the stalls. "I'm delighted that so many
people have supported the event" said Ray; "it just shows how active
the Myland community is - and the grapevine!"
But we weren't selling
vines...? |
 |
Here's John, a local resident, clearly happy with his purchase. The
Plant Sale began at 11am, but a queue formed by 10:40am, and after
the initial rush there was a steady stream of custom until the event
closed at 1pm.
It was good to step
outside the door at one point, and see people heading for the Halls
from all directions! |
 |
We
are grateful to those residents who brought plants from their own
gardens to sell, many cultivated especially for the occasion.
June and Pam were kept
busy, especially by giving advice to customers on the wide range of
species for sale on the stall. And as the plants were donated to us,
every penny raised on this stall was profit! |
 |
Di
and Alan, tired but obviously happy, begin to clear up at the end of
a busy, messy and successful morning.
And the picture was
taken before we knew how much profit we had made! With matched
funding as part of a successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund, the
total raised could be doubled to nearly £1,500. Well done, everyone! |
