The Project
Myland
Parish Halls have been in constant use for many years, serving the local
community – and are now in need of modernisation in order to meet the
increasing needs and expectations of our growing community. The area we
serve (Braiswick, New Braiswick Park, Mile End, The Myle, Northern
Approaches, Romans, St. James Park, Severalls, Turner Rise and Turner
Village) is planned to more than double in size by 2012, and will continue
growing thereafter, well beyond 20,000 residents. Myland Parish Halls are the only community facility
which will be available and capable of expansion within that timeframe.
Detailed
plans have
been drawn up with the assistance of a local architect, and we already
have planning
permission for improvements which will bring the Halls up
to a standard which will serve Myland for at least another 50 years.
Fundraising
We
are immensely grateful for the organisations and individuals within our
community who have pledged their support for the facility in such tangible
ways - with donations, fundraising events and practical help. The total
funds raised, granted or committed now exceed £100,000!
Within this figures are grants from local groups, organisations, companies and charities,
together with Colchester Borough Council. See the impressive and growing list above - click
to visit their websites, and kindly support our supporters!
See right, for how to become
a Sponsorship Partner on the right. As this is a charitable donation,
firms may benefit from tax relief. Where individuals gift-aid their
donation, it is worth 28% more to us!
Big Lottery Fund Application
In 2007 we submitted an
application to the Big Lottery Fund Community Buildings Programme. We were
delighted to hear that our application successfully completed Stage 1
and we were awarded a grant of £25,000 to assist with the extensive and
detailed work necessary to put together the Stage 2 Application. That
application has now been submitted. Representatives of the Big Lottery
Fund visited us in August; they spent the day with the Project Board,
during which they viewed the site and gained further in-depth knowledge of
the project and plans for modernisation. We await their response - whilst
still continuing fundraising!

you would like to be involved with this exciting project and help develop
and improve the existing community facilities for the benefit of Myland
residents please give me a ring. Alternatively come along to one of our
